New overhead patching solution from Siemon

Monday, December 19th, 2011

We really like this new cable-tray mounted rack for overhead patch panels, which Siemon has added to its line of data centre cable management solutions.

Designed to mount directly to overhead ladder racks or cable trays, it provides 4U of 19″ rack mount space above cabinets and racks, and a 27kg load rating, without taking up valuable floor or cabinet space, making it ideal for use within Zone Distribution Areas (ZDAs) or Equipment Distribution Areas (EDAs) in data centres.

It also means that you can relocate racks without needing to reconfigure cabling, and allows pre-cabled connectivity to be installed in overhead spaces and connected via patch cords as new cabinets and/or equipment is added.

Supplied with M6 cage nuts, this RoHS and cULus 1863 compliant rack is constructed using a durable 12 gauge cold-rolled steel frame with a smooth black powder coat finish. Easily attached to all common overhead cable tray and ladder rack systems, it can be mounted below, flush or above cable trays and includes Siemon’s quarter-turn twist-lock cable managers, which lock into place quickly without use of screws or mounting tools.

Queen Mary’s University

Friday, January 28th, 2011

We’ve worked with Queen Mary’s University in London to provide increased connectivity at its new Arts 2 building, with the installation of a Siemon Category 6A solution providing a 10Gip solution to the desk.

Designed by award-winning architects Wilkinson Eyre and under construction on the Mile End Road, the building will primarily provide teaching and research space for the School of History, and will also bring together a range of academic activities from across the Humanities.

Due to open early this year, we’ve already installed resilient single mode (OS2) and multimode (OM3) fibre backbone links from the building to the main campus, coupled with flood wiring with Siemon Category 6A wall and floor outlets, to provide significant future growth for the data network within the building.

Enhancing student communications

Friday, September 24th, 2010

We have just completed the supply and installation of data and telephony at Oxford Brookes University’s halls of residence.

Delivered on time under a demanding programme, some 400 students in the four-storey development have started the new academic year with the communications connectivity they need to make the most of their studies.

Based on a Siemon warranted solution, diverse fibre routeing provides a resilient backbone to each of the five wiring centres eliminating any significant single point of failure.

The project included the supply of Cisco PoE switches to support telephony and the wireless infrastructure, and required strict management and close liaison with other trades to ensure successful completion.

Siemon launch angled Z-MAX patch panel

Friday, May 7th, 2010

Siemon has launched an angled version of the high performance Z-MAX modular patch panel. Designed to support 10 Gb/s Z-MAX 6A network cabling, these new panels meet or exceed all 10GBASE-T and category 6A/class EA performance requirements.

Available in ultra high-density 48 port 1U and 24 port 1U versions, the new angled configuration allows patch cords to be routed directly into vertical cable managers, eliminating the need for additional horizontal cable managers and saving valuable rack space. This not only provides increased density, but also offers more aesthetically pleasing patch cord management.
